Over the past few days I have been searching out deals to see if we can afford to take a vacation over the upcoming holidays. Our favorite destination at this time of the year has been South Carolina. Even though the temperatures are not such that you want to spend a lot of time sun bathing on the beach, there is more than enough to do to keep you and your spouse busy.
Whether you are an avid golfer or just enjoy sight seeing South Carolina has something for you. From the beauty and historical significance of Charleston to the ambiance of Hilton Head to endless things to do in Myrtle Beach, you can't go wrong planning your holiday get away in South Carolina.
One spot along the coastline that we especially enjoyed is Harbourgate Resort and Marina. The three year old resort is built along the Intracoastal waterway in Myrtle Beach. Aside from the natural beauty of the waterway, the resort is close to everything you want to do in and around area. If you decide to stay in and relax, you can sit on your balcony and watch as a century old swing bridge opens to allow a constant flow of commercial and personal watercraft to pass through the Intracoastal waterway's narrow channel.
Whether it is nostalgia or the romanticism of the days gone by when the waterway was a main source of transportation in the area, I could sit there all day and watch the world go by. Adding to the ambiance and nostalgia of the waterway is that Harbourgate has its own marina and this time of the year it is a sight to behold. Many if not all of the ships in the marina are decorated up for the holidays and during Christmas the waterway is a parade of lights virtually every night. Last year we spent New Years at Harbourgate and between the lights on the boats and the fireworks in the background you could not find a more beautiful place to spend an evening with someone special.
With gas prices on the decline and air specials everywhere this may be the time to finalize our plans. If you would like more information about Myrtle Beach and specifically Harbourgate check out our website and we can help you make your plans for a most memorable holiday season. www.wimyrtleconnection.com/accomodations.aspx.
